Sally and the Baby - Liverpool, this week |
So this week has been a week of firsts for me and my family. Whilst the rest of the UK are getting their children ready to go back to schools and universities, we have been getting ourselves ready to go and see my parents.
The last time we saw them was February and since then many things have happened like the baby turning one and my dad having a heart attack, all things that we would usually rally together as a family, but COVID-19 has kept us apart.
Another reason for our visit is that I have my first job, also since February, which is nearer my parents’ house than mine so in the past I have always stayed at there. We did look at staying in a hotel or Air BnB but then finical cost would cancel out the payment for work. And also my parents are desperate to see the baby, so we decided to stay there.
As it stands in the UK the death toll is 41,499 and the number of cases are slowly rising again.

The government are coming out daily with new plans on how to get children back to school safely and at the moment all children over 12 have to wear face masks to and from school and when travelling around the school building but they may take them off during lessons??
So our main priorities have been how to keep us all safe. We have done all the sensible things like keeping our towels and toothbrushes separate and wiping down the toilet handle when with anti bacterial spray after flushing.
I have also decided to take packed lunch to work every day so I do not have to go to a canteen or supermarket and mix with a larger group of people. I am also going to have a shower and change my clothes as soon as I get home from work even before touching the baby. It’s going to be hard but I don’t want to be the person responsible for making someone in my family ill.
The one thing we didn’t plan for was the baby’s reaction to seeing her grandparents. We have chatted everyday during lockdown on FaceTime so she knows their faces and voices and she has been to their house many times in the past. But the moment we walked through the door and she saw them she cried with fear. My parents are desperate to hug her but she hasn’t been in anyone else’s house for 6 months and no one else has held her either. So we are having to take it slow.

Apart from the obvious medical things COVID has also caused other issues such as separation anxiety and making children, and probably some adults, scare of human contact.
I’m angry that it has made the baby react this way, she should have ran to her grandparents with open arms not hide behind my legs in fear!! She was more excited to see their dog than them...
Hopefully this will change in a few days and they will get all the hugs and kisses they have missed.
I am going back to work tomorrow so will talk about that next week. But as I lay in bed writing this I am filled with fear and excitement. I am excited about going back to a job I love and seeing people other than my boyfriend and the baby but I am nervous about everything else. I know the studios and production company have many COVID procedures in place so I guess I will just have to trust everyone else to be safe. I have a work back full of facemasks and anti bacterial hand gels so fingers crossed (and washed) that it all goes well!
