Week 22 starts with disaster as Tassy returns home from last week's trip

Edited BY G P Kennedy Tassy - Karachi, Pakistan   Hello everyone. As excited as I was last week with my short escape to Dubai, this week I’m as despondent. The journey back from Dubai was uneventful in the sense that I knew what to expect with flight protocol and travel. A very excited and happy Mario, my Shih Tzu who we had left behind, greeted me.    The feeling of elation from the week’s trip was very much there for my first day back. The weather was not too hot and it was cloudy so that felt pleasant. This changed from the next day. The wind picked up and my bamboo fence fell over. Along with the fence I lost my beautiful vegetable bearing creepers and my bright bougainvillea that was uprooted.   The wind takes down part of the garden What followed in the next five days was the worst thunderstorm the country has seen in a 100 years!  Karachi in the best of times cannot handle rain. As mentioned a couple of months ago when we had heavy rainfall, our dr...

Week 19 - Tassy starts our week with a mix of calm and storms

Edited BY G P Kennedy Tassy - Karachi, Pakistan  The week went well. This means it was pretty much the same as previous weeks, and that always makes me thankful.  If I have to use two words to sum up the week gone by, they would be peaceful and fulfilling. On the work front, I gained three students who are coming to me for “in person” classes, a few times a week, over and above those that continue their virtual sessions.    This has definitely brought about a certain level of normality to my life and I’m loving the personal interaction and the little chatter that goes along with it. My husband also managed to go physically to the office for 4 of the 5 days of the week, which marked a shift in our daily routines.  We FaceTime our two children in the evenings after our dinner. They have sounded well and happy in their respective homes abroad. This makes me feel at ease.  With the apparent flattening of the curve of COVID19 cases the government decided t...

Coronavirus Stories – Week 8 - May 26, 2020

Edited BY G P Kennedy  As people start to take their first tentative steps outside, our Storytellers maintain social distancing while trying to establish a new normal.  Some governments fare better than others in terms of financial assistance and clarity of message.  The week was punctuated by a national tragedy that killed nearly 100 people in one of our Story cities. The plane crash struck close to home for…   Tassy – Karachi, Pakistan  After a pretty dull few weeks it has been a tumultuous few days. We had a national tragedy a few days ago, with a plane carrying 97 passengers from Lahore crash landing in a residential locality in Karachi two minutes before landing. As the horrendous images and news emerged we found that we knew of a few people on the ill-fated flight, including parents of my husband`s colleague from work.    The news really shook the whole nation. This tragic incident happened a day before the end of the month long period of fasting...
