Week 16 - Daily Diaries - Tassy is working out and working hard before a chilled evening

Tassy - karachi, Pakistan

I woke up in the morning at 6 15 am, feeling rested. Before I get out of bed I usually spend a few minutes mentally going over the activities and chores that I had previously planned to do for the day. I got Mario out of my daughter’s room and took him out for a short stroll in the garden. Being a small dog- a Shih Tzu, and living in Karachi where walking outside the walls of your house is not the norm, a quick run for him around the garden usually suffices.

I drank my customary hot water with lemon and started with morning chores such as running the washing machine, planning meals for the day, and pottering in the kitchen. As normal I then rolled out my yoga mat and did my early morning practice of pranayama (yogic breathing exercises) and yoga. These days as I have fewer yoga students, I can enjoy the luxury of a longer yoga practice of my own. This sets the tone for my day, and energizes me.

By this time my husband was getting ready to go into his study for his first zoom work meeting of the day, so we chatted for a bit. I then had my first zoom yoga class of the day. Because of some electricity disruptions at my student’s house, the class took longer than normal as the connection kept getting interrupted. I always feel good after I have taught a lesson as I am connected with my student and I get to see and chat with another human being, which in these days is luxury for me.

After my class got over I squeezed in an hour of a HIIT workout. I miss not being able to go to my gym so instead I try out a different exercise routine on YouTube. While it is enjoyable as a replacement, the human interaction of fellow gym goers is what I miss the most. By 11 30 am my daughter who is visiting us from university finally made an appearance from her bedroom!

flash flood from the afternoon rains

I got early lunch ready for her as she had her virtual Bharatanatyam class (Indian classical dance that she has been pursuing since the age of 5) starting soon after. I then sat and had lunch with my husband. We usually plan on eating lunch together based on a designated time in between his meetings. Then we both went off to do our respective work in our respective rooms. He went to his study, and I went to my yoga studio for my second class of the day.

My daughter has a flight booked to return to Toronto in a few days, so we had a representative from a laboratory come in full PPE to do a COVID test for her. One of the requirements by airlines for travelers is a certificate saying the passenger is COVID free. It was quite surreal seeing a person enter my house dressed in full gear. Fortunately the nasal swab was painless and they were very efficient.

By mid afternoon contrary to weather forecasts, we had a totally over cast sky and within minutes rain came crashing down. It rained for 6 hours straight. I have seen torrential showers living in Singapore, and this was pretty much comparable to that. From the security cameras in my house I could see the roads outside were totally flooded with water seeping into my driveway from under the gate. From my windows I could see the paved areas in my garden looking like a swimming pool!

At about 5 pm I received a call from my student cancelling his class with me. I have one student who comes to me for an in person class every day, but today he was unable to get out of work as the roads were too flooded. Mario in the meanwhile thought he could go outside and play, and got totally alarmed when he jumped into the puddle and realized that he practically had to swim to get out of it!

A relaxing evening after a busy day
The rain slowly petered down by about 8 pm. My daughter had called a few friends over for dinner. While the boys and girls sat in the living room, my husband and I put our feet up in our TV lounge, with tall drinks in our hands, candles lit, soft jazz playing in the background ready to unwind for the weekend.

Week 16 - Daily Diaries - Saturday in London is a 20-hour Momma marathon for Sally

Edited BY G P Kennedy   Sally...,and the baby - London, UK  02:05am  Good morning…. the baby, as usual, has woken up for a bottle of milk.  She is still in our room, before Covid 19 hit we found black mold in the nursery and the landlord wouldn’t sort it out. Then we went into full lockdown and for a few months people could not come into your house to do work, so to cut a long story short the baby is still in with us at 15 months old!  She is not the best sleeper and wakes 2-3 times a night, so we haven’t had a full night’s sleep in forever. She wouldn’t settle after the bottle and nappy change so came into bed with us.   06:25am  The baby is awake again which means we all are.  After 6 o’clock is good as she is usually ready to get up for the day between 5am and 5.30am.  We have a small Android tablet, which we will put CBeebies on just so we can get 30 minutes more sleep usually. The baby's room 07:00am  The baby and I are up for break...

An expertly crafted roast dinner to round of Food Week

Edited BY G P Kennedy     Chicken Roast Dinner by Simon   Hey all looks like its food week, which is my favorite subject at the best of times!   Last Sunday in Oz was Fathers Day so we went out for lunch, which meant that I didn’t get to cook. To compensate for this I am cooking Roast Chicken last night, which is one of my favorite meals and one that I have cooked so many times, I do it on autopilot while listening to music and having a few beers. No flash recipe here but here is what we had and I’ll explain how I did it-   Roast Chicken. Pigs in blankets. Roast potatoes and carrots. Cauliflower, parsnip and roast garlic puree. Brussels sprouts, broccoli and green beans. Home made gravy.   First thing is to work out the finish time and count back.   2.2 kg whole chicken so say 2 hours cook time. This was roasted with garlic, rosemary and lemon placed inside. Lay this on a bed of garlic and rosemary and drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil and then se...

Racial Justice and Equality - Part 6 - An Awakening

Edited BY G P Kennedy Sally - London, UK #blacklivesmatter  The death of George Floyd has been a catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement to be brought for the forefront of the news.  The color of someone’s skin should not matter in 2020 but for many ignorant, racist, prejudiced, ill-informed people, it still does?  Seeing and reading some of the stuff on the news and on social media, it is unbelievable to see that we are still living in a hugely racist world.     I admit that I thought it was getting better as I tend to surround myself with people that are similar to me, people that do not judge others by their color, their appearance, their sexual preference but by what kind of human being you are, but I have realized this is not a realistic view of the world.    I am from a predominantly white family but I have close relatives that are black so I know about racism through them and am disgusted at how cruel some people can be.    S...
