Sally...,and the baby - London, UK

 02:05am

Good morning…. the baby, as usual, has woken up for a bottle of milk.  She is still in our room, before Covid 19 hit we found black mold in the nursery and the landlord wouldn’t sort it out. Then we went into full lockdown and for a few months people could not come into your house to do work, so to cut a long story short the baby is still in with us at 15 months old!  She is not the best sleeper and wakes 2-3 times a night, so we haven’t had a full night’s sleep in forever.

She wouldn’t settle after the bottle and nappy change so came into bed with us.

06:25am

The baby is awake again which means we all are.  After 6 o’clock is good as she is usually ready to get up for the day between 5am and 5.30am.  We have a small Android tablet, which we will put CBeebies on just so we can get 30 minutes more sleep usually.

The baby's room

07:00am

The baby and I are up for breakfast so I make her cereal and half a slice of toast and whilst she’s eating/throwing it on the floor, walls, smearing it in her hair, I wash up her bottles from the night and shove 2 bits of toast down my throat whilst my other half gets washed and dressed, he then sits with her and I get ready.

07:30am

The baby and I go for a morning walk around our street.  We stop every 5 seconds to say hello to the flowers, hug the lampposts, stamp on the drain covers, wave at the bees having their breakfast, look at the ants and stares at anyone who walk past us in the street and smiles at us, then the baby usually waves at them as they are walking away and say hello ha-ha, she hasn’t quite mastered the art of greeting people in the right order yet!

07:40am

Back home after our stroll and we let the baby watch a bit of TV, this morning it was The Gruffalo for the 1 billionth time.  We have to read the book and watch the movie simultaneously (I try and look at the news on my phone whilst she is watching the TV, but if I miss a page of the book then I get the death stare).

09:00am

Time for a nap for the baby, but I really need one also so when she went down I caught about 30 minutes sleep, which was lovely.

12:00pm

Dinner time for the baby (lunch time for none Scouse people) and as we are doing baby led weaning she tends to eat the same as us, but as I was being super lazy, we all had beans on toast.

13:30pm

My boyfriend took the baby out for a walk so I could catch up on tidying the house.  As I mentioned before the baby has been in the same room as us because of black mold in her room.  Last week the landlady finally got someone to come round and treat it and repaint the walls, so I wanted to get the last bits ready in her room so she could sleep in there tonight. Yay!

14:30pm

After the they came back from their walk my boyfriend and myself put The Gruffalo on for the 1 billionth and first time so we could dismantle the cot in our room and rebuild it in the nursery, we managed to do it in the length of the cartoon and didn’t have one argument ha-ha

The rest of the afternoon was spent letting the baby walk in and our of her room looking at the books and toys and her bed so it wouldn’t be a surprise when she woke up in there later.

17:30pm

Is teatime  (or dinner depending on where you come from) for the baby then after that is the start of her winding down to bed time so we read a couple of books, watch The Gruffalo for the billionth and second time then bath and bed.  The baby pretty much goes to sleep after her bottle that she has in our room and then tonight for the first time ever we carried her into her own room and in her cot.

A whole new meaning to 'Netflix and chill'

19:00pm

We have decided to treat ourselves to a take away Indian and watch a movie.  We ordered in and chose a film on Netflix.  The food wasn’t great, the film was pretty bad, I fell asleep halfway through but I kept thinking about how little sleep I would get worrying that I wouldn’t hear the baby cry in the middle of the night being in another room.

21:20pm

The baby started wriggling so I went in and gave her a bit of milk and she went straight back to sleep. Fingers crossed she will stay asleep all night.

I’ve realized that I haven’t really left the house today other than the 10-minute walk round the block this morning.  When lockdown first started, having our one walk a day was great, we were exploring new parks local to us, and really enjoying it.  Then last week it started to feel like a chore, I think its because I know that I feel like we should still be social distancing but now the parks are getting full with groups of people and its driving me crazy and I get angry trying to avoid people and still keep 2 meters (6 feet) away.  Anyway I kind of enjoyed not going out!

23:30pm

Went to bed, had a quick read of an article on my phone and caught up on a bit of social media and turned the lights out about 20 minutes later.

23:50pm

Haven’t even had time to close my eyes and heard noises on the baby monitor, looked at the screen and the baby is standing up in her cot wide awake looking round her room.  When she started to moan I went in did a quick nappy change and feed.  She wouldn’t go back down in her cot….

00:05am

So brought baby in to our room and she slept in our bed!!!! Night one in own room FAILED!

An expertly crafted roast dinner to round of Food Week

Edited BY G P Kennedy     Chicken Roast Dinner by Simon   Hey all looks like its food week, which is my favorite subject at the best of times!   Last Sunday in Oz was Fathers Day so we went out for lunch, which meant that I didn’t get to cook. To compensate for this I am cooking Roast Chicken last night, which is one of my favorite meals and one that I have cooked so many times, I do it on autopilot while listening to music and having a few beers. No flash recipe here but here is what we had and I’ll explain how I did it-   Roast Chicken. Pigs in blankets. Roast potatoes and carrots. Cauliflower, parsnip and roast garlic puree. Brussels sprouts, broccoli and green beans. Home made gravy.   First thing is to work out the finish time and count back.   2.2 kg whole chicken so say 2 hours cook time. This was roasted with garlic, rosemary and lemon placed inside. Lay this on a bed of garlic and rosemary and drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil and then se...

Racial Justice and Equality - Part 6 - An Awakening

Edited BY G P Kennedy Sally - London, UK #blacklivesmatter  The death of George Floyd has been a catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement to be brought for the forefront of the news.  The color of someone’s skin should not matter in 2020 but for many ignorant, racist, prejudiced, ill-informed people, it still does?  Seeing and reading some of the stuff on the news and on social media, it is unbelievable to see that we are still living in a hugely racist world.     I admit that I thought it was getting better as I tend to surround myself with people that are similar to me, people that do not judge others by their color, their appearance, their sexual preference but by what kind of human being you are, but I have realized this is not a realistic view of the world.    I am from a predominantly white family but I have close relatives that are black so I know about racism through them and am disgusted at how cruel some people can be.    S...
