I still feel a little bit down after last week, I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something is going to happen like an anxiety ball? I am not sure if its because lockdown is easing and pubs and hairdressers etc. opened on 4th July but the numbers of COVID cases hasn’t slowed down but I feel that people are going to go crazy with this little bit of freedom and take more risks and we may get the second wave that they are talking about?
A city in England called called Leicester, has been given a local lockdown as the cases of COVID drastically spiked, which means that children have been pulled out of school and all non-essential shops have closed again. The Government are saying that they will do that to any area that sees a sudden rise again.
Its is now “law” that face masks are mandatory on all public transport. Personally I think this should have happened as soon as it started, but there was a load of talk whether masks actually did anything but now they have decided they do.
I’ve had a few doctors and hospital appointments over the last few weeks and that has been very strange. When I went to hospital I had my temperature taken before I went into the building and was given a face mask and some hand gel. The mask had to stay on for the whole appointment, which was weird as I was getting my eyes checked. The doctors and nurses were in full PPE, visors, masks, gloves and scrubs which was very comforting.
At the doctors surgery they only allow one patient in the waiting room at a time and they only given you an appointment if the doctor can’t diagnose you over the phone. I had to go in for a blood test and again the phlebotomist was fully PPE’d up.
An example of National Health service restrictions
The highlight of my week has been that because lockdown has relaxed a bit, my landlady finally decided that she would get a workmen in to come and look at the mold we found on the walls in the room that was meant to be the babies nursery, before lockdown started in March!!!! The room has been painted and we are starting to put furniture, shelves and pictures up. We are just waiting on a few more bits to be delivered and then we can finally start getting her to sleep in her own room. Yay!
We are still confused about the new rules that you can now visit another family and even stay overnight in their house but not touch them. How would this work visiting my parents and not allowing them to touch the baby? Yet we could still eat at the same table and share the food prepared by them etc.
So we have decided to still not visit until we know for sure that things are on the up. We have also decided not to go to a pub or hairdressers or visit with friends or family but to just carry on as we have for the last 100 plus days and to stay safe.
