Well, here we are, the end of August 2021. This time last year we all felt like it was the end of the world.
Luckily a reliable vaccine was found in early January and distributed around the world to everyone in record time thanks to a combined effort from every country around the world. After a few months most places returned to a new normal and everyone started to rebuild the damage COVID-19 had wrought across the globe.
Amazingly the worldwide distribution of a free vaccine for all was just the beginning of a major shift in the way countries dealt with each other.
Profits, share dividends and the exploitation of billions of people soon took a backseat to fair wages, free childcare and a raft of legislation to protect the environment. It was as if the whole world had woken up and realized how close it was to disaster. For once everyone looked out for each other and realized what a small piece of an enormous puzzle they really were.
Here we are more than halfway into 2021 and famine and disease are becoming a thing of the past as people and government work together towards a stable and healthy population and seek to reverse the damage done to the planet after the last couple of hundred years.
On a personal level I was delighted that International air travel was back on the agenda after Easter and my best friend and his lovely wife were able to come over and stay for 4 weeks. It had been 8 years since I had seen them but we had fantastic time and it was great to find out that I still won nearly every game of pool when we headed down to the local pub.
It’s also only 3 months or so until my Dad comes over for his Christmas visit for 4 weeks. We missed out last year so I’m really looking forward to seeing him.
Sometimes I wonder what 2022 will bring but I try to stay in the present and not worry about the future too much. After all, 2020 was the worst year any of us have ever had…
