Sally - London, UK |
This week has really, really gone slowly for me, but the world seems to be moving faster and faster. Non-essential shops have started to re-open which means the roads and pavements are busier which people taking more risk and not observing the 2-meter (6 feet) rule. Some of my friends have started to go back to work, which is great for them I guess; hopefully their employers have made it a safe environment.
Football (soccer) has started again, with no fans allowed in the ground, but the risk level hasn’t gone down!! My colleagues who film the matches say its very surreal to be there when you can actually hear what the players and managers are shouting to each other instead of the deafening cheers are 50,000 fans.
Mané and Salah - two key players for Liverpool FC
Liverpool FC won the Premier League, which is brilliant as the last time they won it was 30 years ago. Unfortunately it brought out loads of people celebrating in the street in the 1000’s. There was no social distancing took place and all the talk of the planet healing itself and people learning to love it, isn’t true. People totally littered the streets, set fireworks off against building trying to set them on fire and urinated in the streets! Lovely.
Fans celebrate at close quarters
Neither myself nor partner have been offered any work yet and even if we were I am not sure either of us would feel safe enough to take it and risk our health. We are still claiming benefits from the Government to help pay our bills and cover living expenses.
We as a family are still being super careful and not meeting up with anyone else and only going to either the shop once a day or for a long walk in the park.
I am getting annoyed that some people seem think its over. Our neighbors had a garden party last night that went on till late, yet I still haven’t seen my parents since February.
Talking of my parents it’s been my dad’s birthday and Fathers’ Day last week and another reminder of another celebration that we can’t be with loved ones. As the government rules about lockdown contradict themselves, we are unsure of what we are actually allowed to do or whom we are allowed to see.
The latest rule is that in a few weeks you can go into someone else’s house and even sleep over but with no physical contact so I don’t think it would be fair on either my parents or the baby to drive 4 hours to see them and then not be ale to hug each other.
So many families missed out on Fathers' Day this year
Over 42,000 people in the UK have died from Covid related illnesses which is a crazy number and the death rate is still well over 100 a day!
This week will mark 100 days in lockdown for us which is just bonkers to even think about it and scary to ask the question when will it all end? And that thought means I’m a bit stuck in my own head this week so really can’t think of anything else to write, sorry x.
